You have already been introduced to my great-great grandfather John Cobain whom I credited as the man who set me off on my genealogical journey– you can read about him in the blog post ‘The Man Who Started It All’. In this particular blog post I want to introduce you to the rest of his wider family, starting with my 5x great-grandfather Samuel Cobaine.
At present I know very little about Samuel other than the fact that he had one son Joseph Cobaine who married Ann Jane Martin on 30th December 1845. Like Samuel I know very little about Joseph Cobaine but I know that he died before 1881 as his wife is listed on the 1881 Scottish Census as a widow. Joseph and Ann Jane had 8 children:
1. William Cobaine (my 3x great-grandfather) b. 1846, m. Mary Wharry on 4thApril 1868 and d. 2nd December 1918. William was an iron turner for most of his life and seems to be the only one of his siblings who remained in Ireland.
2. James Cobaine b. 1849, m. Elizabeth Monaghan in 1875 and d. 1901 in Scotland
3. Sarah Cobaine b. 1851, I don’t believe Sarah ever got married and I believe she died in Scotland
4. George Cobaine b. 1853, m. Mary Rodger they had one son James b. 1883 in Scotland
5. Margaret Cobaine b. 1855, m. James King on 13th March 1874 in Govan, Lanarkshire
6. Joseph Cobaine b. 1859
7. John Cobaine b. 12th August 1866 in Belfast
8. Robert Cobaine b. 12th March 1869 in Belfast and d. 7th May 1871in Belfast
Like his father, John Cobain was also one of eightchildren, his seven siblings include:

· Agnes Kirk b. 20th May 1891, m. William Boyd on 9th April 1914 in Belfast. As their daughter Florence was born three months later on 9th October 1914, I can safely assume that might have been the reason why her parents got married in haste.
