The next child to come after George was William Henry but I have already discussed him in my blog post William Henry McGaffin 1845-1927. As a result I will discuss the next in line which is Joseph McGaffin born 14th August 1847. Despite being born during a time of famine Joseph seems to have survived the turmoil going on around him. He and his wife Jane (maiden name Bradford) had five children, all of whom were born in Newry:
• Isabella b. 17th June 1880, m. James Polland 10th August 1910
• James McConkey b. 17th April 1882, m. Mary Jane Henry 30th November 1910
• William Henry b. 24th November 1884 and d. 3rd May 1917 in France (East Yorkshire Regiment, Service No 28533 and is buried in France)
• Joseph b. 8th October 1886, m. Isabella Fearson, would later move to the United States
• George Bradford b. 30th March 1891, m. Sarah Fleming 30th March 1921
Joseph would die at the age of 45 on 16th June 1893 as a result of cystitis; Jane would be left to bring up five children aged between 13 and 2 years of age. He would never see his children grow up or have to endure the pain of losing his son William in the First World War. Because Joseph predeceased his father, the 75 acre farm was left to his wife who would hold in trust for their son James. The effects of Josephs’ will totalled £134 17s 6d.

• Edward b. 24th May 1912 in Buffalo, New York, m. Emma Matus in 1942, d. 14th December 1995 in Eire, New York (4 children)
• Harry b. 14th January 1914 in Buffalo, New York, married Leona E. and died September 1982
• Hubert b. 28th February 1916, m. Muriel Regan on 21st October 1945 and d. 21st February 2000 in Davidsonville, Anne Arundel, Maryland (1 child)
• Doris b. 25th April 1923 in New York and d. 8th August 2001 in Buffalo, New York
