The fourth son of James and Matilda McGaffin b. 19th May 1850 in Newry, d. 8th January 1930 and my great-great-great grandfather. He married Sarah Cowan in 1878 and it is believed that they went to America to get married but this has not been proven. It is the one mystery on my tree that I have yet to solve. Sarah's uncle was the prominent journalist and tenant right campaigner Dr James McKnight LL.D who you can read about in the post "Runs in the family after all". Robert and Sarah went on to have four children. Robert and his family are living at 5 Templemore Street (Pottinger, County Down) in 1901. His occupation is listed, or appears to be, Dairyman. They later moved to 38 Dunraven Avenue where he is now a gardener and Sarah is a housekeeper.
